This is not a funny thing ...
please read and help me.. cause I gonna cry T^T
My macbook acted strangely few weeks ago.. since I have to work with windows environment.. for the project here.
I have to reboot it at least 5 times a day... cause of too slowly process normal human can't stand.
2 days ago, the display resolution didn't fit to the screen.. it's a bit bigger and cannot fix anyway. The display always dancing with my cursor while I moving it around.
Today I just lost my hard disk on Macbook... it crashed..!!!!???
while I was using Windows XP... run on Parallel Desktop... which is reboot from Bootcamp
one window was not responding... so I restarted.. after waiting for a while
It show the white screen.. with a question mark in the center!!???
My harddisk has gone already!
It cannot be detected anymore!!! I tried to boot my Macbook with Windows installation CD.. the CD drive still working.. it started booting from cd-rom. But after that, it cannot go on processing cause it found no hard disk drive to install the OS.
I off work in the afternoon, went to Apple Center of Singapore.. they tried to connect my Macbook with other Mac via firewire. My macbook show screen that it's be connected. But that another computer cannot detect my disk.
.....
..I have to change the hard disk, they'd change it for me, it's still in guarantee time. But I will lose all data,.. I don't back up them yet.
Oh noo!! I want my works back then!!!
They said I have to bring my hard disk to Data Recoevery Center...
It has to be recovered by specialist... who will bill me $900-$1000
Anyone knows?...
Is that the regular cost for recovery??
Does anyone know how to recover unusable disk ourselves?
HELP PLEASSEEE
I gonna cry.... T__T
ps. Everyone at my office seen I yell out all day long..
Now i'm using my boss's laptop at home.
and.. who know what it cause from a? |

I conducted the search roughly and found that it costs around 1000 - 10000 THB here based on the type of problem: hardware, software. As you can search for "ร้าน กู้ข้อมูล ราคา" in Google.
I guess your problem might be a hardware issue and that costs much higher than the software issue. The success rate of recovery is also not 100% guarantee and you have to pay some operating cost even if they cannot bring back any data for you.
If I were you and the data in the HDD is important to me that much, I might try the service at Singapore which costs around 20000 - 25000 THB (Assumed that $ is Singapore dollar.) I somehow believe that the Singapore service is more sophisticated than the Pantip guys' and they may have more specific tools for this kind of situation.
But, if I were you and that data in HDD is NOT important to me that much, I would try a Pantip Guys' service at lower cost when I am back in Thailand. Notes that the lower cost comes with lower chance of recovery
There are also some programs that can recover deleted files from HDD such as EasyRecovery or Undelete. But these are only for software issues.
I had been in this kind of situation once and I had to do the complete rework of project. But I think that the source code, documents, ... are things that can be reconstruct with some amount of time. But things such as photos of your family, videos can not be reconstruct. I would pay the recovery cost only for these kind of things.
Losing all the memories of the past is hard to accept, but sometimes it is better to get up and start building the whole things again
Good luck
PS. I strongly believe that this is ordinary hardware issue, not Window s's fault anyway |

Thanks Gan.
My data in that HDD are lots of photos and daily diary for more than 1 year T__T .. also new works I started here
I have to bring back Macbook and HDD to Apple Center again after I finish recovery a... then they can give a new one to me... So.... can't wait to bring it to pantip anyway.
...
.....
Internship doesn't return me back reach that price loey ... =_="
By the way, I can read Thai but cannot type cause this laptop is not mine. Sorry Tun. |

It is actually my "kradae" ship to type in English
If you determined to bring HDD back to Thailand, do not forget the fact that you have higher chance of recovery in Singapore, also with higher charge |

Let me share you my experience.
Last 2 years, may be 1 and a half, my harddisk had gone like you.
It happened since my windows XP is restarted too many times, anyway, I used non-licensed windows for installation.
After the last time it restarted, my computer couldn't detect any harddisk anymore. I was extremely frightened !
I went to PANTIP plaza at the best recovery shop which I had asked information from many people there. I gave them my harddisk and leave it there. They inform me that it might be costed me about 1200 Bht to recover. They also told me to name the important directory's name, so they could recover it as high-prioryty, in case they can't recover all of the data. Notice that I didn't pay for this unfinished process.
I had waiting for the response about 4 days, then someone rang me. He inform me that they try their best. Yet, the data couldn't be recovered !
He suggested me to claim the new one at DCOM (I used seagate harddisk). Nevertheless, he told me to ask DCOM service center whether they could send my harddisk to recover it with any laboratory.
I went to DCOM and asked for possibility. The operator inform me that DCOM had to send my harddisk abroad to LAB and that might costed me 4000-5000 Bht.AND NOTICE THAT FOR THIS KIND OF METHOD I HAVE TO PAY THOUGH MY DATA DOESN"T COME BACK !
Thus, I made the decision not to recover it anymore though I have manifold movies, especially that kind you know what, which I had been collecting them for a long time.
For you, RAN, I hope you could make better decision from my story.
I would like to repeat one of GANT's quote:

The success rate of recovery is also not 100% guarantee and you have to pay some operating cost even if they cannot bring back any data for you. |

NICE QUOTE
Cheer up, Ran
At least try using recovery tools found out there on the net to bring back your data.
Unless you are that unlucky, you will not have to pay for this. |

Yup.. Thanks a lot!
Today I met my friend here.. who has experience with broken hard disk and he could get it back himself. He tried to help me with his tools.. same thing as general specialist use. but it doesn't work.. so we went to Sim Lim Square (like Pantip in BKK) to find a new connector.. I guess, to check whether the problem's from my mainboard. Then I saw that my HDD didn't even spin...
I went to ask specialist in that place.. he said.. if HDD doesn't even spin, he cannot recover it as regular.. it has to send to specialist to open and fix it in the clean room... and just that clean room would cost $500 rent per hour.. and has to send to China.. Cause in Singapore has only 1-2 places.. so that would take a longer time... oh nooo... T__T It's not possible for me to get my data back anymore....
